Raft settings?

I've had a read of the information in this thread - viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2100 - and it's good, but I'd still like to know what people are doing to make a good raft.
I don't have too many problems getting mine to stick to the platform but I often have a lot of trouble getting the raft to separate from the part nicely. I've got an UP printer and the rafts a heck of a lot nicer to remove on those prints.

I have found brims to be far superior to rafts in pretty much every way. So I use that to prevent warping and help hold the part down. It's a lot easier to remove and prints faster with much less filament.
