Printer stalls while heating - No printing

I ready the printer, watch the part load up and heaters rise...then it just hangs there even though it seems the heaters are at temp. It stays in this loop until I cancel the print. It is my understanding that until heating set point is reached and heaters drop into hysteresis that printing will not initiate. Is it possible that the addresses for the heaters and/or corresponding RTDs are wrong/mismatched? Or perhaps the temp settings are outside or beyond what they should be?
I have not been able to print for sometime now trying to sort this problem out. Any thoughts? I can provide more detail as needed. Thanks!

I can think of a few possible causes
- The PID values are tuned so poorly that the temperature never stabilizes and just wildly fluctuates the whole time. The firmware waits for the temperature to stabilize so that it isn't changing more than a degree or so, otherwise it won't continue
- I've seen many printers that have electrical issues and just can't provide enough power to reach a certain temperature. So the printer is trying to heat to something like 240C, but it can't ever get past 235C, thus the printer never starts.
- I've also seen some printers that get to just 0.1C below the desired temperature, but then never exceed it. For example, you tell it to go to 70C and it gets to 69.9C, but never goes to 70 or above. This is usually also due to poor PID values and can also cause the print to stall.

I had similar problems with my PID. the extruder would make temperature, and then go above the setpoint before the heated bed made the temp setpoint. once the heated bed was up to temp, the extruder was too hot and wouldn't start. I had to retune the PID as CompundCarl mentioned.

I just noticed this in another thread. could this be your issue also?

I normally run OctoPrint so I haven't run into the USB issues in a while but yesterday I was making some printer changes and wanted to run S3D direct.
In 4 out of 5 prints the communications did hang requiring a Forced Next. The interesting thing to me was that the hang was exactly in the same place in the print. As soon as the bed heating finished and was about to turn on the extruder heat is when things stopped. Once I did the force next the print continued with no problem. The longest print was about 2 hours. This is telling me something here but I'm not sure what.

This is on the latest Windows 10 preview build with a FolgerTech Prusa I3 reprap printer running USB through a front panel hub. The printer is running the latest RC5 version of Marlin. OctoPrint doesn't seems to have this hang sending the same gcode to the printer.

It just seems to me if we have some random USB problem it wouldn't be happening at the same place in 4 out of 5 of my prints. "

Thanks for the direction on this. I will look at the PID loop settings if I can find them. What menu is that found in?

I am still running Windows 8.1 and have not upgraded to Windows 10 yet. That was a second issue I was researching here, if I should upgrade or not.
I will continue to resist the Windows 10 jump until I have no choice.

PID settings are in the firmware, not the software.
