Bridging Improvement Ideas

1. Shortest distance bridging

Consider two concentric cylindrical walls that need to be bridged. Currently the bridge would be performed as a rectilinear fill. Using this methodology the length of the bridges constructed varies from the shortest radial distance between the two cylinder to the longest cord that doesn't touch the interior cylindrical wall. What if the fill pattern was dynamically generated to reduce the length of each bridge segment? In the case of the two cylinders, every bridge would be a radial line that connects the two cylinders. This would minimize bridge sag and potentially improve print times since shorter bridges can be printed faster. Subsequent layers could be printed using a standard rectilinear pattern.

2. Ignore Bridges Shorter than X

If a bridge is very short it doen't make sense to handle it any differently than standard infill. It's possible the bridge quality may improve since the filament will already be flowing when it passes over the small gap rather than just starting at the edge of the small gap. This could be useful when printing embossed lettering. X would be a distance in mm. A value of zero would disable bridge ignoring.
