If there was a way to incorporate normal maps or even bump maps onto a model to help add higher detail without having such a high polygon model to work off of, people could easily adjust and fix errors with smaller resolution models ( lower poly ) but end up with higher resolution prints due to the mix of polygons with normal mapping or bump mapping applied. I have been wanting to try to print some armor parts with subtle engraving, and it would be so much easier to just have a low poly model smoothed then apply a mapping image with details on top without having high polygons to pull it off.
I hope you guys will consider this, as I think it would open up some doors to making life easier on printers wanting that control without complex polygons.
