Support not generated under some obvious parts left in air

Hi

If you tak this STL http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1775325 , (use the thicker base).
Turn it facing you
Resize for let's say a 4mm height
Now generate supprot with a width of 2mm. (3 and 4 give same result). 1mm works partually but not sure will be correct

The generated support leaves 2 quite obvious parts in the air :
First upper right tentacle (In the back)
First upper left tentacle (below mouth)

>> I can always add them, but how come those obvious ends are not being found ? All other slices do support them proper. This is reason I wished to report it to you more as a bug. I believe the issue is the tip of the tentacle is really thin and not detected as the end of a part...

It might help if you attached a factory file so that other people could see what settings you are using

I'd love to upload but the factory is 4MB (even ziped) and I'm allowed 3MB. Here's link to a file on my OneDrive :

Your model is only about 30mm wide with some fairly small features, so you definitely don't want to use a 4mm support pillar resolution. That's not going to be useful for handling things like tentacles that are only 2mm thick.

So just set the support pillar resolution to something like 1 or 2mm and it will work much better

You obviously did not dare trying... It does not work, simply even at 1mm, I have obvious parts in air, sorry.

This is one of the long standing issues with S3D.....see this thread for details:
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1977&hilit=support+pointed

At the moment there's not a lot that can be done about it.....other than careful addition of manual supports.

Also.....it may be worth adding a comment to the above thread so to bump it back up into view. ;)
