Model get's "broken" when I Prepare to print

Hi

I have been using S3D for a while, but never had this happen before. When I click "Prepare to Print!" the model changes it's characteristics. The overlapping parts are simply removed, making the model useless.

Moedeled in Fusion 360.

See the pictures.

First try based on brief information.....

Try selecting "Separate Connected Surfaces" on the Mesh dropdown menu. If its what I think it may be, this will generate one or more additional entries in the Models list......and the shape may then slice correctly.

I was about to write that you should pass your objects, when you export them, trough netfabb, free version is great and works wonders but I see they don't have free version any more and they are now owned by someone :( ... so you have to find some other way to check object for errors and repair them after you export them as fusion is not always exporting objects good. ... there was some online version of netfabb you can google it, you can try meshlab, it's super powerful (not as easy and as fast as netfabb was) etc .. some small mesh errors you can fix directly in s3d but it's good to prepare your mesh properly immediately after export so you know you always have "proper" stl that you can slice anywhere :D

Take a look at the explanation I put in this thread on how intersecting meshes within a model get messed up.....and how easy it is to sort out:

My guess would be that the overlapping parts weren't properly combined using a boolean operation. So they are just self-intersecting sheets. But if you want to post the STL file, it will be pretty easy to verify

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys!
I'll give "Mesh > Separate Connected Surfaces" when I get home tonight, that sounds about right.

If not, Meshmixer.
