Creator Version 1.0.6 Now Available!

Happy Friday everyone! We've got some exciting things to talk about today, but before we get into that, we have one item we want to make sure everyone is aware of. A few users have been experiencing problems when running large builds over USB. We're working on making our communication protocols more robust to avoid this issue completely, but for the time being we would encourage everyone to run your longer prints directly from the SD card. You'll get better print quality that way to begin with since there is less overhead without all the back and forth serial communication. If you have any questions about how to do that, just let me know.

Now onto the good stuff! We're releasing version 1.0.6 of the Creator software today with quite a few improvements over the previous version. We made several substantial upgrades to the underlying slicing engine as well as a few new features that were requested by the community. When you download the new update, it will also include our Quick Start Guide that walks you through the entire printing process, beginning to end. For Windows and Mac users, the guide will be available directly from the installer or by going to Help > Quick Start Guide. Linux users will need to browse to the installation directory (typically /opt/S3DCreator*) and open the guide manually. The rest of the new changes for this release are listed below.
  • Added ability to upload files directly to SD card via USB
  • Added build time estimate to progress bar when printing from USB
  • Added Quick Start Guide to installer and help menu (Linux users can find this in the install directory)
  • Added ability to modify vertical (Z) offset to account for slightly incorrect endstop positioning
  • Updates to internal slicing engine
  • Improvement to ensure outer layer solidity
  • Improved path optimization for models with multiple cascading cutouts
  • More path optimization improvement for lots of small infill segments
  • Improvement to circular arc detection for G2/G3 commands
  • Improvement for solid ceiling/floor detection
  • Can now enter negative extra restart distances for retraction settings
  • Added fallback mechanism for firmware response timeouts (Force Next button)
  • Slight improvement for build estimation times with slowdown cooling enabled
  • Several small optimization improvements for memory intensive meshes and builds
  • Updated default Machine Control Panel extruder and bed set temperatures
  • Swapped default mouse scroll wheel zoom direction to match most users preferences, previous users may need to toggle this in main options
  • Removed user-defined parallel line tolerance, functionality is still there, but tolerance is not variable
  • Fixed an intermittent error where UI temperature monitoring would stop working after the end of a build
  • Fixed error where Previewer would crash with specific number of retraction movements
  • Fixed incorrect temperature scaling when monitoring temperatures over 200 degrees
As always, follow the instructions in your confirmation email to download the latest release.
