Autodesk published a video about a variable Layer Heights algorithm. Currently I do this by hand with multiple processes to decrease printing duration. Using an algorithm for this would be great.

Yes, just read about this to at http://hackaday.com/2016/11/03/variable ... -printers/
This would be great in S3D!!

This idea's been around a while (see: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=3624), but there's not been any action on it from anyone until now. Lets hope this spurs some more innovation!

"from anyone" is bit wrong since at least one open source slicer have this implemented (in test stage still but works like a charm)

maybe s3d is preparing it for next release

This and the "variable infill density" ideas should be their top priority. in my opinion.

Interesting - where can I find this to test out?

+1 this would be a great feature for prototyping. I don't know if it would give me the prettiest results. I think any given material needs to be fine tuned to a specific layer height. Changing the layer height by a factor of ten - I can't see it working so well on my machines. Would also complicate your first layer settings, and much more.
