is this an issue with the slicer behavior, like a setting that i need to check or uncheck? or is it the model itself?

tried that, all it did was create a separate model with the secondary piece being its own thing.. meaning it separated the parts at exactly the place im having a problem withdkightley wrote:Try the solution I advised here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5691&p=24675&hilit= ... ted#p24675
I would try it again....but this time select the boss as a separate part, double-click it, and change the X offset to 124.99. It will combine the two together as I advised.tried that, all it did was create a separate model with the secondary piece being its own thing.. meaning it separated the parts at exactly the place im having a problem with
i must have missed that part from the linked thread, sorry about that, ill give it a shot, not like its hard to find out whether or not it will work with print preview, personally im a bit confused as to why its coming across as 2 parts, i selected "merge all objects" when i exported it, and reviewing the model it all moves as one unit.. that's why i assumed it was slicer behaviour as opposed to the modeldkightley wrote:I would try it again....but this time select the boss as a separate part, double-click it, and change the X offset to 124.99. The problem is that the two meshes don't actually interleave....they sit side by side!! Which is why they'll never be treated as one solid.
what other issues did you see with the mesh? the overlapping between the two parts was intentional actually. (aside from the extra triangles that get added during the subtraction process for no reason i can tell)brian442 wrote:You have 2 separate shells at that location that don't seem to be booleaned together properly. So that's why they are printing like that. There's actually also a lot of other issues with the mesh too, so you might want to start by repairing the file or fixing it in your CAD package before trying to slice it.

STL file format allows for multiple solids inside a single file. When you "merge all objects" what happens in most cases is that every object is separately stored in to the same stl file. They are not merged by creating the union of them but rather just stored in single file with proper positions so they look like a single object. the "split parts" / "split meshes" function in slicers, mesh editors, mesh repair software etc will split them into separate objects. If you save the file as ASCII STL you can see the structure easily if you open the file in txt editor, each object will have it's own body section in the file.TrackerF16 wrote:confused as to why its coming across as 2 parts, i selected "merge all objects" when i exported it, and reviewing the model it all moves as one unit.. that's why i assumed it was slicer behaviour as opposed to the model
