Cooling tab overrides

Does anyone have a good understanding of how Simplify3d's cooling overrides work? Is there a good article about it. I know what they do, but trying to understand the order in which they are used.

I commonly see that the Fan override is set higher than the speed override.

The logic as I understand it would be that the layer is slowed down to a min of 20% of full speed to get the layer be more than 10sec. If it can't, then it will use the fan in the range of fan speed to max fan set in the fan override. But only if that slowed down layer is still less than 30 seconds.

Am I understanding that correct?

Re: Cooling tab overrides

I think they are independent. You can make the fan come on whenever you want, so just adjust those settings how you like. The speed reduction settings are totally separate.

This tip of the day explains it briefly -> viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2364

If your layer print time is less than 15 secs, the print speed will reduce (up to a min of 20%) to maintain that layer time. Fan is something similar, But if you are printing PLA, better keep that fan at the highest speed as possible.
