[ADDED] Raft Interface Angle Selection

I've noticed a significant difference in raft quality between MakerBot Print/Desktop and Simplify3D.

The main difference is that when MB software is printing a raft, the interface layers cross over each other (perpendicular), and the first layer of a part is perpendicular to the last printed raft layer.

Simplify3D rafts print in one direction, and then when printing the first layer, print the sparse infill parallel to the last Raft Layer.

I know that MB is not a very positively reviewed company, but right now, I'm stuck using their software because of the superior rafts. (Both in ease of removal, and effect on first layer.

Re: Raft Interface Angle Selection

Hmm.. when I print a raft in S3D, the direction of the solid fill on the first part layer opposes the raft top layer direction. I tried changing a bunch of different raft and solid infill settings, and I can only get the raft to go the opposite direction of the infill.

You said it goes parallel, right? Or are you saying that it's perpendicular to the solid layers, but parallel to the sparse interior fill?

Re: Raft Interface Angle Selection

Perhaps I have just been unlucky, but I've encountered a parallelism between the raft interface layers and the solid base of the part multiple times. Even if this isn't a reoccurring issue, I still believe that it's be nice to have a selection to modify (doesn't have to be precise) the angle of the raft and part layers. I still find that MakerBot generated rafts are easier to remove.

Re: Raft Interface Angle Selection

Version 4.0 includes a completely new raft design that is far easier to remove and also prints much faster than previous versions. You can also find new customization options for the raft by clicking "Edit Process Settings" and going to the Additions tab. Many of these customization options are also explained at the link below:

This raft has been performing very well with the many printers and filaments that we have tested, so we hope you enjoy the new improvements in version 4.0!
