Problem with first layer

Hi There,
I tried using creator software with UM2. below are the settings
Layer thickness: .1mm
Extrusion width: manual, 0.4mm
Multiplier: .9 (I have been using this with Slic3r based on my calibration)
Z-offset (tried from 0 to .04)
The issue is the first layer does not stick properly. I am using Kapton tape @70C temperature. I even upped the multiplier to 1 and found the same issue. The first layer material comes out but it is grossly underextruding.
When i changed the layer height to .2 the first layer sticks well. Also, i feel that the infill extrusions are pretty smooth and solid but the perimeters are intermittent.
Any suggestions,
Sam

did you measure and set the filament diameter? also try changing your extrusion width to auto and see what happens. set your first layer height to maybe 85% as a starting point.

What kind of plastic are you using?

There's a known issue with what were described as conflicting settings that cause S3D to under-extrude. When it has happened to me I've had first layers that didn't stick and had gaps between each line laid down by the extruder.
I've switched to using medium settings for the first 2 layers (stop printing at .6mm) and not only does it work great, but my success rate with first layer adherence has never been better.

Hi.
Supagoat, it looks to me that I struggle with the same issue. (under-extruding)
Q: ti which settings in the Layer settings do you refer?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

guys is this on the first layer only? is the extrusion rate correct through the rest of the model?

Jim,
Its the first layer only. Interestingly If I put a raft around. The Raft extrusion is right but the actual 3D piece is under extruded.

I just checked some extrusion rates in a gcode file I made. I don't see any difference between the first layer or any layers after that. I'm going to take a guess that this probably isn't an issue with the software. If it's only happening on the first layer, it seems much more likely that it's a leveling/zeroing issue.
One tip to try - I like to use the "First layer underspeed" option to print the first layer at 30% speed. It makes a night and day difference for how well large parts stick.

first layer only then as joe said it is a bed level or z-height adjustment. your first layer is printing too high off the bed.

I still have the same problem. I checked the gap, set the diameter, tried lowering first layer speed etc. But for whatever reason the first layer string is under extruded. I am using PLA for all the test. I guess there is something wrong with the extrusion rates. Anyone from simplify3d dev team? please help
