Vertical striations

Hi all,

Please help me understand how I can diagnose this and figure out if slicing has anything to do with this.

The 2 prints are done on 2 different UM2 printers so it's hard to imagine that it's a mechanical problem since the striations are identical.
However looking at the preview its seems like a dead straight line with no potential affects from infil or anything else causing this, and it doesn't seem like ringing.

I have tried also on one printer to swap the alignment with the Y & X axis. When printed at an angle it was reduced, but for practical reasons I would prefer to figure out why this in happening so I can line parts up on the bed as I please.

Any ideas please??

Cheers,
Greg

Re: Vertical striations

It looks like the parts are just wide enough that you might have a bit of infill (or even gap fill) in various places, so it's possible that's affecting it. As a test, I would try to do the print with perimeters only to see if it looks any different. To do that, just set the infill percentage to zero, and then go to the Advanced tab and change the thin wall behavior to "only use perimeters"

Re: Vertical striations

Thanks,

That is a good suggestion, I'll definitely give that a go. For the moment printing rotated 45 degrees in the Z axis so that it's not parallel to the X or Y axis seems to improve it a lot, but looking at the preview there is no evidence of any gap fill of infil at all. Wouldn't you expect to see that represented here? I'll still try it though...

Thanks again for the response,
Greg
