Baudrates: How fast or slow?

Hi There...

before anyone asks,I have a FlashForge Creator Dual on Sailfish 7.6 firmware. And I predominantly use a Mac on 10.9.

As an exercise towards setting up a workflow, I am running via USB and the Machine Control Panel. I have four points I am interested in solving.

1: Complete dead stop during a print. Unrecoverable due to software locking up.

2: Intermittent pauses during print. (yes, I have read the post about short filenames etc)

3: Best baudrate to use. Currently defaulted to 115200.

4: Temperature Plot does not show bed, only extruder.

I have also noticed that if the Machine Control Panel is not the window in focus, after a while (was surfing with Safari) the print paused. When I focussed the window, it started again.

Any help here would be graciously accepted.

1&2 you should always be printing from your sdcard not the usb. Computer processes can disrupt the data transfer to the printer. Always sd! #3 is the correct rate. Atleast for my printer. The ff might be different. Youll have to find that out from ff i think. #4 do you get a temp reading back from the bed? The digital #'s?

JimC...

I absolutely know that SD is best. And that's how I have been printing since I purchased the printer two months ago. As I said, I'm experimenting with a new workflow. Particularly from a remote perspective. I can use remote desktop to load and run files. It also allows me to monitor the printer.

Interestingly, only after I altered the baud rate higher and then back to default does the bed temp now display.

I am wondering how the SD card functions work. Are they functional?

Just to be sure, did you follow this guide?
http://www.simplify3d.com/support/makerbot/

Particularly the part where you select the MakerBot/Sailfish firmware settings. You will need to choose the "Replicator 1 - Dual Extruder" on the X3G tab, otherwise you will have problems trying to use both extruders and the heated bed.

Joel...

Thanks for the post, and yes that's already done.

Everything was running great for a few hours, knocking out two prints. Each print was about two and a half hours long. Then on the third print (same file as the last two), S3D locked up and froze the print. The head was actually embedded in the print.

I had to force quit the application (on a Mac) and also reboot to get S3D to start. I restarted the print and it failed again, with the same deal.

Seriously, USB can't be that bad..???

Check the Communication log in the Machine Control Panel. Do you see a bunch of communication issues with the bot? Things like lost packets and failed transmissions?

Many times that says there is some problem maintaining a constant USB connection. Power fluctuations and EM interference are big causes for this.
