Simplify3D User Forum

This is a feature that as far as I can tell is only supported in Kisslicer. That is, to be able to set the infill percentage as a function of layer height. The idea is that for larger objects with a relatively flat roof I set a low percentage infill for the majority of the object, then a layer or two before the roof layers start I increase the percentage. This gives the roof extrusions more to extrude on to and thereby provides a smoother surface with less chance of the layer bubbling upward off the lower layer. It also makes it possible to use a lot less infill which in turn makes for less lift/pull off pressures from lineal shrinkage for those rectangular objects. You guys could use the exact same user interface you have in the advanced process area used for temperature per layer... please...

That feature is already available in S3D, stop printing at so and so layer and start at the next layer with a different profile.
It is explained somewhere here in this forum but you'll have to search as I don't remember right now. Sorry.

OK... this is how that works...
Process1 set infill to 0 and stop it at a particular height. Set top solid layer to 0.
Process2 set the infill to 30% turn off skirt, and or raft if on. Set bottom solid layer to 0. Also... you may want to check your downward fan so it stays on. You also have to set the 1st layer height and speed to 100%. Set this process to start at the height that the first process stopped at.
A dialog comes up on Prepare when there's more then one process... Select all and select continuous layers
This works, and it does the job... but it is a PITA. Each of these settings are persistent... you have to put them back next time you add a process.
Making a user interface that operates just like the temp per layer and the cooling fan speed per layer is what I am asking for.

That was my first thought too. But then what will happen if you change layer hight?
Instead I would like Simplify3D to view hight in mm and layer hight in the Gcode preview (actualy I find it strange it is not allready showing both).

This bit me on a very large part. I specified height in mm for a new process. Unfortunately the mm height was not an exact multiple of the layer height. So what ended up happening is that the new process started above the old process by the remainder of the mm height/layer height. That causes an ugly ring around the center of the model as the plastic didn't adhere very well and it took a few layers to even back out again.

So yeah. it's still a PITA and additionally you have to calculate in things like first layer height % to figure out the correct mm to start/stop your new process.
Now do this with a model that has more than several processes. =
