Fast Second and Third Layers only

Hi everyone,

I have been using S3D for some time now and have been loving it. I recently came accross a new issue that I have never seen before and would love some input.

My issue is that the first layer is printed perfectly at the speeds I tell it however as soon as the second layer is printed, the speed jumps up probably 3x what I have specified within the Other tab for outlines. This happens to the third layer as well however then falls back down to my chosen speeds for the 4th layer and so on. This speed issue causes my printer to jump in speed rapidly, creating surface defects for those few layers, eventually affecting the other layers further down the line. I don't know what causes this as no matter what I seem to do, the speed doesn't change for those 2 layers.

Any help will be appreciated. I have attached a few images for reference.

It's probably because of your first layer speed setting (on the Layer tab)

The thing is that it is only the second and third layers. My first layer speed is perfect but after it, the speed jumps up and then down again after the third layer.

I cannot see where you get 3x the speed you specified. Talking about outlines...
  • Layer 1: 40%*30%*60mm/s = 7.2mm/s (30% underspeed for outlines and 40% underspeed for first layer.
  • Layer 2+3: 30%*60mm/s = 18mm/s.
  • Layer 4 and above have sparse infill and the part seems pretty small. So most likely the "Speed overides" settings found in the "Cooling" tab kick in so as to make the layer printing time long enough for sufficient cooling.

I see! This makes so much sense. It was just a 20*20 cube to do my tests with, hence the size.
I completely forgot about the Speed Overrides. Thank you so much for your help! Fiddled with the settings and got it to get all the speeds equal.

Thanks again
