The 3D sundial: print problems

Many people have probably printed the ingenious 3D digital sundial. I downloaded the files, started a print of the gnomon of the sundial, but about 3 mm up on the layers, the TAZ 6 just printed over all of the slots that had developed so far. The file looks fine when previewed, so I have no idea what went wrong. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Re: The 3D sundial: print problems

I can only assume that the version of the sundial you have downloaded has issues with the mesh that S3D is not able to deal with. You have a few options to try....

Find a version that has been run through one of the online mesh repair services.

Run the version you have through an online repair service yourself

or

Try varying the layer thickness by increments of 0.0001mm to see if the filled-in layers stop being generated.

If the preview is correct and doesn't contain the problematic layers that you mentioned, then it definitely isn't an issue with the mesh. More likely a problem with the printer skipping steps or an electronics issue.
