Variable Lateral Infill -- Is It Possible?

I have two parts that I'm printing that need to be joined later with self-tapping screws after I drill a pilot hole in the 'base' piece so that the 'cover' piece can be attached. I would love to be able to print a small circular or rectangular 100% infill region where there screws will go, but keep the infill for the rest of the part very low (like 10%; weight is a big factor). I cannot think of a way to do this. Is it even possible with Simplify3D (or any slicer)?
Thanks!
-M.

This is not possible for now. Only layer based via processes.
If you want only small parts with hight infill you have to split you model in multiple parts and putting it together in S3D and use different processes for the parts:

I've done stuff like this with S3D many times. Just open the 3D model in your CAD package and then create a cut in the model for the area where you want different settings. Then export the different bodies as separate STL files. Then you can use different settings in S3D for the different bodies.

Ah ha! Fantastic idea - thank you!

It took a bit of digging around before I found how to assign the right process to the right part, so jic you are having the same trouble, here's how:
Pick a process, then go to FFF settings and hit the 'select models' button and pick the model parts you want. Do this for each process..

Yeah but then you get unwanted scars (double outlines) as mentioned here:

Has this changed in 6 years? Cura apparently can do it, but I am hoping Simplify3d can. I have very large prints (like a couple feet) that need more infill where threaded inserts will go. Changing to 100% infill for 2 inches of a print that is a couple feet long adds more than a day to a print and $20 more material.
