End of print retraction

I've noticed recently that when a print finishes there is a string of filament several cms in length from the final point on the object, gradually thinning as the head returns to home.

I checked the end of a job and as far as I can tell it does a 2mm retract (my normal setting for E3D V6) as part of the main gcode, plus an additional 1mm to 'reduce pressure' from the S3D 'Ending Script', before it moves the head away.

Code: Select all

; last few lines of generated Gcode:
; inner perimeter
; outer perimeter
G1 X121.370 Y94.083 F10800
G1 E0.0000 F6000
G92 E0
G1 X141.270 Y94.083 E0.6932 F642
G1 X141.270 Y94.237 E0.6986
G1 X121.417 Y94.237 E1.3902
G1 X121.370 Y94.237 F642
G1 X121.370 Y94.083 F642
G92 E0
G1 E-2.0000 F6000
; layer end
; start of Ending Script
M107
G1 E-1 ; Reduce filament pressure
M104 T1 S0 ; turn off extruder 2
G1 Z150 F300 ; lower platform to bottom
G28 X0 Y0; home X-axis Y-Axis
M84 ; disable motors
I don't seem to have too much stringing during the print, maybe a few zits & blobs

Ideas?

Re: End of print retraction

What temperature and what plastic are you using? It's possible you're printing a bit too hot.

How about making the ending script retraction larger?

Re: End of print retraction

Thanks for the feedback. I'll play around with the retraction settings and see how it turns out
