Brim option for prime pillar

I've gotten dual filament printing working fairly reliably (filament switching with a Y adapter and a single nozzle), but one weak point is the prime pillar. It's heartbreaking to see your print get 223 layers high only to then have the prime pillar lose adhesion.

I can make the prime pillar footprint larger to increase stability, but that wastes more filament (going from 18mm to 20mm increases tower filament usage by 23%, and the prime pillar itself already wastes an enormous amount of filament when you're filament switching).

One simple solution that I think would help a lot is to add an m mm wide brim around the prime pillar for the first n layers. This would add a lot of stability (particularly on that critical first layer) and end up using less filament, since I can now reduce the size of my prime pillar to just large enough to purge the previous filament.

That is a great idea. (I have had the same heartbreak)

Just had a tragedy w/ a prime pillar on a 21hr print right now and google brought me here. I bet there arent enough people using dual extruder setups for them to care enough to implement but it for sure seems like itd be an easy fix.

I agree this is needed. I think it needs to be added since the Prusa Edition of Slic3r is now getting a LOT of multi-filament support added into it. If S3D does not start adding features, it will become irrelevant.

In the current version of the software as long as your part has a brim enabled your prime pillar will also have a brim. Are you requesting the option to enable a brim for only the Prime Pillar?

Hi Chris - it's a shame no-one answered you. I've just had this problem - my print was going well (which doesn't need a brim) but my Prime Pillar came loose. So yes, a brim for the Prime Pillar ONLY. I think this would be useful. Not all models need, nor do we want a brim, but the Prime Pillar could almost always do with it.

The option would be great! Thanks.
