Simplify3D User Forum

I've read every thread on zit/bumps/pimples and can't seem to get rid of them. I saw that it was apparently "fixed" a few versions ago. Any ideas?

vinny, its all in your settings. it can be from extruding too much material and if not then it has to be taken care of with retraction, coasting and a neg restart distance. i found it a big help also to turn off the auto extrusion width and set that just slightly above your nozzle diameter. maybe .05 or so higher.

not in all cases but in most that i have seen is the zit is from excess plastic at the start of a line. lowering the extrusion width makes for less pressure in the hot end. from there a slight coating value will help reduce pressure a little more then a slight neg restart helps with any plastic that does come out of the nozzle during the rapid movement.

It looks like -.1 restart distance and upping my extrusion width from .4 to .45 was the ticket. I swear I tried those already, I must've just not gotten the combination correct. Hopefully the software will take care of the zits in the future. KISSlicer rarely had zits like that. I love all the other features of Simplify3d though, so the good definitely outweighs the bad.

well its not really a software issue. its just settings that are tuned to your filament. kisslicer may just have had default settings that more more in tune with the material you happened to be printing. it would be impossible for the software to automatically take care of that since every roll of plastic is different. the zits can be caused by moisture in the filament. in which case those numbers would need to be upped a little or lowered for filament that is maybe a little drier. you will fine tune those settings with every roll.

Idk about that. SLic3r, KISSlicer, and Cura all handled the "zit" issue very well.

Simplify3d is still has a superior feature set.

Actually KISSlicer do handle start/end points different and in my opinion better.
KISSlicer move the start and endpoint inside the model, moving the seam into the model + you can have one seam where you want in stead of lots of start/end points
spread all over the model.

If Simplify3d could nail the seam hiding issue then it would hands down be the best slicer on the market.

I'm still seeing "zits" while printing using continuous corkscrew mode, which is odd considering that it's not retracting during the process. Anyone else notice this as well?
