Gap in perimiter

I have a gap when trying to make a solid wall. How do I get this to fill in?

This is the infamous thin wall behaviour!
Search the forum for examples of what I mean......but a first attempt to reducing this strange way of working would be to select the Allow gap fill when necessary radio button on the Advanced tab and up the accompanying overlap percentage to 50%.
