I am planning to add a glass plate to my (2016 if it's relevant) FFCP. This is because prints are welding themselves to the existing sheet. This is not altogether bad, I know and I can remove the prints.

However, it can be very difficult to remove them and I'm concerned that I'll damage something if I carry on as I am. So, having a removable build plate seems like a sensible solution.

Anyway... I know that if I add the 3mm plate, I'll also have to add a 3mm shim. I'm printing this now. However, is there anything else I need to change to tell S3D/the printer that I've done this? I don't want to cause more damage than I'm trying to avoid.

The only thing you may need to do is to make slight adjustments to the global-z position to fine tune the bed's vertical position in relation to the print nozzle....something you have to do whenever you change a nozzle.

This is after you have got your bed level spot on!

Thank you very much for such a swift and helpful response. I do wonder now how much actual adjustment I have on the bed adjustment screws. If I can get 3mm out of those then I could perhaps even do without the shim.

May I ask: When you say the global z-position, where is it that I would need to change this?

I purchased a FFCP glass bed kit on Amazon that did not require a shim. It came with spring replacements and side clips. You twist the adjustment thumb screws until they pull the bed almost as far as they can go, which eliminates the need for shim. Works great.

The first plate is on and working well. I just need to find the best way to fix it now. Ideally I want an easy solution which allows me to revert to the old surface if I want to. So, something which holds the glass above the existing surface.

I have downloaded a number of the options from Thingiverse but none seem to fit as well as is needed. I may well just remix them for my purposes.

However, it did occur to me that it's really only a case of stopping the glass from sliding about which shouldn't be too difficult. I wondered whether a slavering of glue stick to the existing surface would simply stick the glass down but also allow it to be easy to be removed? It seems silly to over-engineer a solution. Has anyone tried this approach?

I run a glass build plate on my MBot 2x. Held in place with 2 small binder clips. There is enough compression in the clips to hold the build plate in place. When Print is finished I undo the clips, pull the plate off, set it on cooling rack and then slap on another build plate on and begin my next print.
