how does it decide how to fill walls? - avoiding gaps

I have been experimenting with wall thicknesses and wondering why I get separation with no infill and why it is unpredictable.

nozzle is 0.4mm, so one might imagine a 0.2 gap in a 1mm wall, no gap in a 1.2 wall.... number of layers on the outside affects this so that the gap re-appears when the wall gets thicker. it seems simplify 3D could be a bit more clever at avoiding printing two separated walls with no infill!

This test piece is stepping up from 0.8 mm to 2 mm in 0.2 mm increments.

I have a similar problem, no matter what I try I can not get the walls to be laid down without a gap between each pass. I am trying with 100% infill but always the walls consist of separate lines. Using a 0.4mm nozzle in an Anycubic i3 Mega. Earlier versions of Simplify seemed to work but not version 4, however if I try a previous version still get problem.
