Simplify3D User Forum

I'm finding the way simplify 3D saves settings counter intuitive and confusing.

I understand that I have develop my settings for each material, and printer. What I want to end up with is a developed setting for each material on each printer.

Then I want to fine tune those settings for each particular part (for a given material on a given printer) and save those final settings in a file that I associate with each part.

However, when I open simplify 3D it opens with the last part and the settings that were last used. when I pick a material from the drop down lits, I have no idea what settings I'm getting...they seem to be a combination of some default settings that came with simplify 3D, and some of the setting used for the last part. I end up completely confused and unable to get back to what worked with a particular part on a particular printer in the past.

so what I want, in a drop down list is to pick a file "creator plus ABS" that is a file i decided to save my master settings for this printer and materiel in.

When I open simplify 3D I do not want it to open with the model and setting last used, unless I pick a file and choose to load them. I want it to start a fresh and let me pick my settings for printer and material, that I choose from a set of files that I saved somewhere.

I cant seem to understand how to do this. I just seem to have to fiddle my setting about from what was used last time with no idea what the suggested starting settings were that were provided by simplify3D on installation....

So can some users share their strategy for saving settings?
The way the software opens with the model and settings used last time, I realize might be nice for some hobbyists, but it the last thing I want in my situation. There surely must be a way to stop that? You wouldn't want a word processor to always open with the (possibly confidential) document you were editing last time every time you switch on your PC on would you? how would you like your browser home page to always be the last web page you browsed to?!
As a hypothetical example, what if you were preparing to print something personal on the work printer that it would be inconvenient for your boss to see?

You can disable that by going to Tools > Options, the disable the "Save and restore application state" option.

It explains a lot of the basics. You may also want to use the "Save As New" option to create new profiles if you want to avoid overwriting some master configuration.

When you pick a new auto-configure option, the settings will change based on that selection. So if you pick ABS vs PLA, you will probably see that the temperatures and fan speed settings change between the materials. If you want to see exactly what is changed, go to File > Export FFF Profile, select the profile you want to check, then open that file in a text editor and scroll to the <autoConfigureMaterial> sections at the bottom. That shows you exactly what setting is changed for each material.

export factory file, you save settings, part position, orientation, scale, part itself ...
