Hi all,

I have a raised n2 plus and want to take full advantage of having two extruders.
What I did so far:

- installed 0.8 mm nozzle
- set nozzle to 0.8
- set extrusion multiplier to 1.05
- set extrusion witdh to manual (0.8mm)
- layer height 0.5 mm (more worked too but than the second 0.4 mm nozzle couldnt keep up to do supports)
- temperature(pla) 220

The above settings are getting me fairly ok prints. Default settings gave me prints with empty parts/ under extruded.

1) Anyone have more suggestions? Does a bigger nozzle allow you to print at higher speeds or is it the opposite, should I mess with speed settings?
2) Rafts and supports are useless now as they became impossible to remove. Any way to overcome this (other than using my 0.4mm extruder for this)?

- extrusion width for 0.8mm nozzle has to be bigger then 0.8mm if you want good prints .. 0.9-1.0 mm should work better
- extrusion multiplier needs to be calibrated not set arbitrarily
- print rafts/support with 0.8mm nozzle and only interface with 0.4mm one
- print speed is related to number of things, you mentioned PLA, for PLA you mostly have limits that are power of your heater, motors and stiffness of the machine.. the material itself can be printed very fast (not the case with many other plastics).. if you have properly defined acceleration and jer for your machine your major limiting factor is the heater block -> does it have enough power the keep the required temperature while extruding quickly... old style heater block 20W cartridge were incapable of delivering heat at usual speeds for 1mm nozzle but these new puppies that are usually 40+W with larger thermal mass and brass nozzles usually survive anything you throw at them so you will have to test.. monitor nozzle temperature at higher temperatures .. if it's stable you are ok. now if you are using geared extruder you could hit the limit of the electronics of max RPM of your extruder motor so you can't push fast enough if you go far enough, especially with 1mm nozzle and 1.7mm filament (I'm using 3mm filament with 1mm and 1.2mm nozzle).. that also you have to experiment with ... and finally, stepper's lose power with speed, at higher speeds your extruder motor might not have enough torque to push plastic trough.. normally you should not hit any of these problems with 0.8mm nozzle and 0.5mm layer at 70-80mm/sec print speeds .. but you have to try

I'm using a 0.8mm nozzle to print a big part that has a large flat base about 4mm thick, and then some vertical walls about the same thickness. I'm using 1.75mm nGen filament, and for the 0.8mm nozzle I have to run it at max temp (240^C) and slow it down to 50mm/s or less, to give the plastic enough time to melt.

I found that I have to use a first layer extrusion width of 160%, and set the extrusion multiplier to 1.3, in order to get gap-free layers on the base...but 1.3 is slightly too much material once it gets to the vertical walls (they start looking "mushy"). There doesn't seem to be a way in Simplify3D to change the extrusion multiplier based on the layer (like you can for the temperature). I'm going to try going to a slightly larger extrusion width (1mm) to see if maybe that will give me a more "rectangular" extrusion shape that doesn't leave gaps.

If you use the Variable Print Settings feature there is a way to change any setting based on height....so YES, there is a way to do this.
