Simplify3d killed my print on install

Really annoying: I was printing with the tools I usually use, and then I installed the latest Simplify3D, and ran it after the install was done. Stupidly(!), Simplify3D killed my running print by grabbing the serial port. The printer released the motors and the Z axis fell down, effectively destroying my running print.

NEVER just open the serial port without asking the user first. Pretty please. That's just bad manners.

You can disable that if you want. Tools > Options, then check the "Disable automatic USB device detection"
