Top of model is rendered as one solid piece

Greetings!
I am trying to print out this model:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1271858

Unfortunately, slicing it in S3D cause the top to be rendered as one solid piece. If I select "Separate Connected Surfaces" I get over 600 items and, if it doesn't lock it up, it still renders the top as solid.

However, if I pop the model into Cura, it renders it exactly as designed.

This is not the only model to not render correctly and I'm hoping to find a fix for it or suggestions for what's going wrong. Mainly because I can't understand how a $150 program can't do what a free one can.

Thanks!

S3D is very sensitive to errors in meshes....and what you have is the result of the software suffering due to an error in the shape you are trying to load. This is fairly common with files that have been posted on these free-to-download sites.

What you will need to do is to clean the shape files using either one of the online services....or if you are on Windows 10, use 3D Builder.

Sorry for chiming in again.
You are certainly right, this model is bursting of selfintersecting triangles.

And still my version of S3D slices that model quite well without any visible issues in the preview.
At least with 0,15 an 0,2mm layer height.
Checking the "merge outlines" box I get the exact result 3DEnthusiast complained about...

Actually, Blackbird was correct. I had that checked and as soon as I unchecked it, that seemed to clear any issues I was having.

Thank you!
