Extruder setup and filament...

Can anyone explain why this setup is not assigned to the filament?

I use PLA, ABS, PETG, but the filament are not using the same "Retraction" and "Coasting Distance". The value in the "Ooze Control" are locked to all type filament, why?

I have in the drop down menu my filament, but it changing only Temperature and Fan and so on, not "Ooze Control".

The software is great but the menu structure and the way it is handled is not so good.

... thats why you can't generalize this settings depending on the kind of material, it is more depending on the model to be print.

You can already customize this in the software. If you want to make retraction and coasting part of the material settings, that is easy to do.

Search the forum, there are many topics on it. Basically, you would just export the profile, open it in a text editor, and then add the entire <extruders> section into each <autoConfigureMaterial> entry at the bottom of the file. Then save and re-import.

You only need to make that edit in the text file one time. After that, you can do all changes in the normal UI.

@rrdavis That's a nice hints, i fixed it.
I just thinking not all can do XML without messing things up. Therefore it will be a nice feature if S3D will rewrite the "profile" code, and do it more easy to handle...

... and if these pre-settings are counter-productive you can easy uncheck the boxes by 1 mouseclick - so how I check them ON when needed

The pre-settings of material and print-quality are good for beginners to give them a basic knowledge.
I don't use them, I store specific settings in the profils with clear named factory -files.

I have no statistics but I guess - hold true for all materials - using the settings for all of my prints

Standard settings - Rest variable or OFF
Retract 75% ON or OFF
Restart distance 99% ON or OFF
Lift 90% ON or OFF
Speed 100%; no changes
Coast at end 15% ON or variable / OFF
Wipe 5% ON or variable / OFF

Changing a spool caused by
color - never or only when printing toys for the grand-kids
material-prefences - 50% (PLA, Flex, PETG 10%, ABS, ASA, GeeTec and similar 90%)
All my settings are very specific and not constant, even not for all parts of a project.

Its the advantage of S3D to be able for all this different settings , otherwise I would use a Dremel or a DaVinci with their hermetically sealed software and chiped material boxes.
