Having issues after Win10 upgrade

I upgraded to win 10 and started my first print. After about 2-3 min of printing the extruder will stop mid print. It will start moving around all hectic like. All the while still extruding. At that time I'll cancel the print the bed will lower but the extruder will keep moving and extruding. The only way to stop it is to turn the printer off. I've tried reinstalling 3ds and upgrading to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions?

But yea, make sure your computer isn't going to sleep or hibernating or anything like that.

I upgraded to Win 10 yesterday, and tried printing today. The printing process stops randomly, usually at the very beginning of the print before it's finished laying down the first layer.

Hitting "Pause" and then "Resume" gets it going again. Sometimes it stops again shortly after, though and I have to repeat the process.

Once it stopped and the pause and resume thing didn't work, I used "Force Next" along with pause and resume and that got it going again.

I'm guessing this is a com port problem, something in Windows is putting a hold of com traffic, or not detecting that Simplify3d needs persistent access to the port. Just my .05 cents (inflation, you know).

Is there a benefit to printing directly from your computer? I have never done this; I always copy the GCode file to an SD card, put that in the printer, and print from that. That way the printer doesn't know or care what my computer is doing, and I am free to do whatever I want with it, including turning it off while the printer completes a 20 hour print.

i have been using windows 10 for prob 8 mos now. the problem with the pausing and needing to hit force next didnt start with windows 10. it started with s3d v3.0. windows 10 and v 2.2.2 or any of the v2 software didnt ever have a com problem like that when printing over usb. it happens on my windows machine every single time i print. usually about 5-10 min in. sometimes it will continue on its own after 10 sec and sometime you must hit force next to make it start again. this only happens on the pc version. never the mac. i run both.

I haven't seen anyone say it's fixed yet, so perhaps they are still working on it.

@bbinnard - to answer your question, printing from the SD card will always be MUCH more reliable than printing from USB. The serial port communication that these printers use over usb is prone to errors, in fact, many of the datasheets for the USB control boards literally specify a finite error rate that should be expected from that communication method. It's a really unreliable way to communicate, so printing from the SD card will be much more reliable, and faster with less latency!

Exact same issues here.
Printer pausing once it gets into a layer or two (after raft and brims). Starts moving then extruding oddly.
Cancel print and it returns to home axis only to then start printing again in mid-air.
Not a sleep problem, machine is in use doing web stuff while I print as always.

Have moved to SD card printing directly, seems that they have broken something with serial comms along the line...

I typically print over USB for short jobs and use an SD card for longer prints. Since upgrading to Win 10 I've already had two issues printing over USB.

1-Apparently Win 10 changed my power settings and went into sleep/hibernate. This was an obvious problem and I changed the power plan to never sleep (using a desktop). Hung print, but at least there was an obvious fix for it!

2-After changing the power plan and running a few jobs over USB successfully, I had another communication issue. The printer was still extruding and the head moving slightly. I was able to bring up the S3D control panel as noticed continuous retry errors streaming by (sorry i did not take a picture). I aborted the job.

I did notice that the usbser.sys device driver has a date of July 31, 2015 on it, which seems to have been released at the last moment by Microsoft.

When I used the Microsoft tools to look for any USB problem, it came back that it 'reset the port since that is a typical solution'. I get a sneaky suspicion that the port somehow goes into some sleep state even though I changed the system power plan.

I am using a FlashForge Creator X. It would be interesting to track the printers having this problem.

Printing all my jobs from SD until I hear some good news.
