i have a strange problem here. I have this part where i am just using the automatic support generation but for some reason Simplify3D thinks my printer can start prints midair. whats wrong here? is this a bug?

This is a problem that slicers have yet to figure a fool proof way to solve.
I'd suggest automatically generating supports using the supports tool and afterwards manually placing supports on this surface.

not trying to be a dick here but neither cura nor slic3r have this problem(s) and those are free.
Simplify V5.0 better be awesome or you have a pretty good chance of loosing a whole lot of customers.
