Not trying to be contrary, but I certainly did print up to 170 mm using the method I described without doing anything to the printer firmware directly.

Re: Increase z build dimension? (FFCP)

Perhaps your firmware doesn't have max virtual endstops enabled or already had a high enough Z-height, but it's misleading to say that changing the Z-height in S3D is going to fix incorrect firmware settings, because this is not the case. You can definitely prove this for yourself using the info I posted earlier.

But glad you got your prints working

Again, just switching to the "Default" protocol and modifying everything to fit the printer and change the Z dimension to 170 mm was all it took. Note: I also changed the end script to to G1 170 instead of G1 150. You don't want things going back up after making a tall print.
I did exactly this, and my machine still stopped at 150. im using sailfish 7.7. what did you do exactly? can you include all the steps?

Re: Increase z build dimension? (FFCP)

If you read the thread, the software will NOT change your firmware. So you need to make sure your firmware is configured to allow a higher Z build height, otherwise it will keep stopping the print at the height set in the firmware.

So you might want to look in the Sailfish documentation to see how to edit the max Z build height
