Problem opening S3D

Try to open S3D and it loads 3 past .stl files and then closes. Try to open an .stl which S3D is my default .stl viewer...and this occurs..? No conditions have changed on my PC and first time seeing this in about 5yrs of use.

If needing to reinstall S3D...where is the default directory for the imported .FFF files?

If there's one specific STL causing this you might solve this by deleting the saved state:
c:\users\_username_\appdata\local\simplify3d\s3d-software\savedState.factory
or
%localappdata%\simplify3d\s3d-software\savedState.factory

That's good news
Now might be a good time to backup all those precious FFF profiles by exporting them...
And another thing: If you're using S3D as default viewer for STL files and don't like the fact it comes up with all models from the previous session, you can disable this: "Tools -> Options -> Preferences -> Save and restore application state"
