As the title says.. upgraded to 3.0 and did the settings and afterwards went to import a calibration cube just for it to cause a crash.. tried another model and same thing.. just crashes.

Try dragging and dropping the STL file into the software, does that work for you?

I'm on El Capitan and it works.

Same problem here...
I'm on 10.7.5 and S3D 3.0 will crash every time I try to upload. I have to drag and drop the item to prevent it from crashing.
Also S3D will crash at random times when I preview the print before saving the .gcode file.

I upgraded to El Capitan and got Simplify3D 3.0.2 installed just now, but still can't print using USB.
I've rebooted, quit S3D and launched it again, tried manually connecting, rebooted printer, no luck.
S3D seems to hang when it tries to do USB in El Capitan.
Anyone else seen this, found a workaround/fix?

no, ive been printing on el capitan even back when it was in the first public beta and had no issues with it. i slice and run a printer from usb on the mac every single day and i can say the mac version right now is the only one i can print from usb reliably. in any version of s3d i have not ever had a mac/usb issue. windows on the other hand............
sorry i realize this is of no help.

I've had no issue with El Cap until the last update. Now i have no USB connection to the printer. Makerbot software also has no USB.
Here is something I found on Apple's dev forum:
https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/12581
haven't tried it yet, but will soon!

I had similar trouble until I did the following:
In the Firmware panel
Set the Communication Time Out to 90 seconds (I had large files that needed more time to download to printer)
Set the Cache size to: one less than the amount of memory you want to allocate (depends on how much memory you have)
In the Machine Control panel
Set the Baud Rate to 250000 (may not matter but no harm setting to max)
Note: The problem for me may have been as much related to my DaVinci 1.0A printer.
I had too many problems with S3d 3.0 and 3.01 so I didn’t bother upgrading to 3.02 and am happy with 2.2.2 even with it’s bug’s…
I’m running El Capitan and it also ran on SnowLeopard and Yosemite without problems after I made the changes. Attached screenshot...
