Strange thing....

I keep getting this message "Cannot auto arrange. Largest part exceeds build dimensions" on items that I have already used with the program. Can't seem to get passed it on any of my sculpts. I updated my program and still have this issue. When it first started I had removed an item and had little particles left floating on the build plate if that makes sense... Tried to add a new item to get ready for printing and that is when I get the message :(

The only time I get that message is when I have a part that is bigger than the build volume. So just remove the really large part, or scale it down so that it isn't so big.

If your model is indeed within the build volume then it sounds like you have so e cleanup to do since there is probably some stray triangles on your model that are difficult to see.

The obvious thing to do would be to resize my item if I was importing it for the First time, however I'm bringing back items that I have already imported to Simplify in the past, sliced and printed. I just want to resize them again, group etc. I'm getting the error message on absolutely every thing I try to import to the program. I have uninstalled the program and downloaded it again without any change :(

If your sure its not the model then this is a new one. I havent ever heard anyone have this problem before. I certainly have not seen it on either my mac or pc. Not sure what to tell you other than to email support. Are your models too big in one direction and need to be rotated 90deg to fit? Ehen imported are they being placed in the ceter of the table?

We can probably make this really easy to diagnose. Just attach your factory file (file > save factory file). Then it will be easy to recreate whatever you're seeing.

So here is an example... I imported an obj file of a pumpkin to simplify in August. Everything went great. printed several copies :D Decided that I wanted to print the pumpkin a bit larger so I imported the same obj file only to get the message "Cannot auto arrange. Largest part exceeds build dimensions". Cant get past that to even start with the edit process so that I could show you a factory file :D. I tried several different obj files that I ran previously thru the program all resulting with the same message... I had a cow in stl file format and imported that... It came thru Hurray!!!! so I removed the cow as I really wanted to print the pumpkin and that is where the particles (triangles) are left that I see. Crazy I know :D So I imported a monkey in STL format.. it came thru and I could see the triangles disappear so that is a good thing... removed the monkey and the left over triangles were left behind again from the monkey... Tried importing the cow in OBJ format this time and "Cannot auto arrange. Largest part exceeds build dimensions"... So I guess it hates my OBJ files and my STL files like to leave little bread crumbs! not sure if it is my Mac, or the update on simplify or if I'm just crazy :D

i have never put an obj file into s3d so i really have no input on that but just for the hell of it goto preferences/models and make sure automatically scale is unchecked and in the box at the bottom there are no import actions listed.

if you cant post a factory file maybe you could post an obj and stl for one of the models you are having trouble with.

I have noticed this bug with cylindrical build volumes (delta printers). You have to specify the build volume using the dimensions of the largest square that will fit on the build plate, but Simplify3D uses the square to calculate the limits instead of the circle.

Thank you all for your help! I will see if I can make the adjustments as suggested. I guess the most frustrating part of this whole thing is I have used the program without this problems for a few weeks now and this issue just started. Unfortunately I am new to the whole idea of 3D printing so that doesn't help. I do make most of my models using sculptris and import the obj files from those downloads Maybe if I use a more advanced sculpting program I will have better luck with my imports as well. I use a Falshforge Creator Pro printer if that helps any... Again Thank you for all of you input.
