Priming?

Is there a way to run a preset, priming path, rather than using a skirt/brim that can end up much too long?

Re: Priming?

Yes, this is what I do. I've included my starting gcode below. Basically, it brings the hot end to the origin of my print bed (closest to me) then raises the nozzle up 30mm It then extrudes 25mm of filament. On my system, 25mm seems to be the right amount to get a consistent extrusion when going from a cold nozzle to a heated one.

G28 X0 Y0 Z0 ; home
G0 X0 Y0 F4000; go to origin
G0 Z30 ; raise z 30mm
G92 E0 ; zero extrusion
G0 F200 E25 ; extrude 25mm
G4 P5000 ; pause 5 sec
G92 E0 ; zero extrusion

After this beginning gcode is run, the print begins.

Re: Priming?

Awesome, thanks. My DaVinci needs more than 25mm, but, this is a great start.

Edit...

Looks like 25 may be fine. I just drew up a priming path that is close to what the stock software uses, and it's ~30mm.

Here is the gcode. Which lines do I dump to add to the starting script?

Code: Select all

G92 E0
G1 E-2.0000 F1800
G1 Z0.600 F2400
; layer 1, Z = 0.6
T0
; tool H0.600 W0.480

G1 X14.053 Y187.194 E7.7334
G1 X13.924 Y187.194 E7.7461

; layer end
M103 ; turn off extruder and retraction

Re: Priming?

I don't think I can answer that question with confidence. I'm not familiar enough with gcode, let alone your specific printer. I'm sure someone else here can comment.

Re: Priming?

You probably don't need the last three lines in the g-code. So the last line in the start script should be G92 E0.

Looking at the g-code (and I'm no g-code expert either :) ), you're basically asking that 4 lines be drawn to clean and prime the extruder. G1 moves the nozzle to coordinate X# Y# extruding filament at flow E#.

Broken down its basically:
- The first extruded line will be at X14.053, between Y187.194 and Y110.994.
- Then shift to X13.924, and backtrack between Y110.994 and Y187.194.

The x-shift is only .129 in the X... What is your nozzle diameter? I ask because it would most likely overlap and possibly track filament onto your nozzle. So if your nozzle is .5, I'd probably use that as the shift variable... so 14.053 - .5 = 13.553. In your script replace X13.924 with X13.553.

Using whole numbers for coordinates might help. :) And obviously load your g-code in and preview S3Ds simulator.

Re: Priming?

How do I prime both extruders from a Davinci Duo ? I noticed that Simplify 3D 3.0 would prime them, but 3.0.1 does not. Did I turn off by mistake a setting somewhere ?

How do I select in GCode the second extruder to do the same operations to prime after the first one is done ? I noticed my second extruder needs a few cm extruder priming in 3.0.1

M605 S2 X100 R0 did not work

Re: Priming?

:?: :?: Can you guys help me adding a line rather than a blob? Someone else on this forum thought me how to remove the purging blob, but now
i would like to a a line at the front of the build bed left to right. Any one?

Thanks

Re: Priming?

I don't think the S3D profile for the da vinvi duo changed at all from 3.0.0 to 3.0.1, so you might want to try clicking "edit process settings" and then clicking the Remove button in the top right to get rid of your current da vinci profile. Then go back to Help > Configuration Assistant, and select the da vinci to re-download that profile. That way you can make sure you didn't accidentally change something.
