Odd spurious diaphragm issue

See attached factory. The hole up the middle is supposed to be clear but as you can see S3D inserted odd "diagrams" in several places. The one at the 3rd layer is just an entire shell, no recognition of the central hole at all. The one at player 13 has it's own perimeter, like S3D put a single layer plug in the bore. Both of these occur in the first process. I attempted slicing this with a single process and got the same thing. It slices fine in KISS.

Any recommendations? Do I have something odd in my factory or is this an S3D bug. I've verified the STL. S3D's Mesh verification also passes with flying colors.

Changing layer height to .21mm fixes the problem at layer 3 but not at layer 13.

S3D 3.01 on Mac OSX

cheers,
Michael

Re: Odd spurious diaphragm issue

Running your shape file through the cloud shape fixer (https://netfabb.azurewebsites.net/) has resolved the issue.

S3D seems to be quite sensetive to mesh errors, some of which show up as strange things that other slicers tend to ignore/miss.

Fixed factory file attached....

Re: Odd spurious diaphragm issue

Intersting, I ran my STL through Rhino when I made it and it checked clean. I also checked it in S3D and it did not report errors nor did KISS. I didn't try netfabb because these others reported ok. What did you find in the file?
Thanks,
Michael

Re: Odd spurious diaphragm issue

Hmm, oddly, I just ran the part through my desktop NetFabb and it reports no issues. I am in the middle of printing a bunch of parts so I can't try your fixed factory until later but I'll take a look.

Meanwhile, I was able to remove both artifacts by changing the layer height to .20001 (or whatever the last digit S3D supports is).

The cloud Netfabb service only repairs. It doesn't report....so whatever it found and repaired, we'll never know about!

And, yes, changing the layer thckness by a very small amount does seem to make the issue go away.
