Auto-Configure for Material & Print Quality Highlighting

What all settings in the Advanced Settings are connected to Auto-Configure Material & Print Quality. I have been jumping between profiles to see what changes, but it would be really great if they were color coded or something to easily let you know what settings each of them include. For example highlight all Auto-Configure Material controlled settings in green and highlight all Auto-Configure Print Quality controlled settings in blue, that way it would be very easy to go through the settings and know exactly which ones will change when a different profile is selected.

If you want to get advanced on this idea, have some way to allow the adding and removing of settings to the Auto Configurations. For example, for Auto-Configure for Material, I would love to include Filament diameter in the recorded settings, that way when I switch from PLA to Nylon, the Filament diameter would automatically update to the filament I have!

Thanks and loving 3.0.x right now!

Re: Auto-Configure for Material & Print Quality Highlighting

It turns out many of the configurable parameters can be added into the autoconfigure Material/Quality settings.

The process is to manually export the profile and insert the appropriate parameter tags. To do what you want with the filament diameter, add the following tag to each of the autoconfigure Material profiles by adding:
<filamentDiameter>####</filamentDiameter>

Highlighting the parameters which could be changed could be difficult since all the parameters can be modified by adding the appropriate tag to the auto-configure section. Adding "global" to the tag will allow the parameter to be preset by the "Quality" profiles (ie <globalExtrusionMultiplier>).

S3D mentions in one of their videos, that modifying the autoconfigure Quality/Materials will be covered in a later video... So there is a method to their implementation. Hopefully they detail the tag usage or list the applicable tags for each autoconfigure section.

From what I've figured out its definitely an advanced feature which could simplify many workflows when using different nozzles, layer heights and filament color.

Wow, tested that out and it works! It's quite the manual process, but I now have a list of all the properties that change when I select an Auto-Configuration and I can add and/or remove any specific item I want to in that list. Well done KC, well done!

Thanks!

You're welcome. A lot of smart users in the community helped my understanding tremendously.

The drawback I find with working with the "auto-configure" presets is that they save automatically. Unlike the profiles which tell you something has modified. Once you make a change to the auto-configure preset, it saves itself.

To deal with this, I re-import a base profile every once in a while. A scripting or XML type editor helps with sifting through all the settings... on a Mac I use TextWrangler.

I like the idea of color coding fields based on what drives them.
