Processes disappearing

I have a problem, sometimes when I use, "Configuration Assistant" to add a new printer, my existing Processes are cleared out. I hen have to manually add each process back. Any suggestions?

Also is there any way to bypass, "Select Process for Printing" window after selecting the, "Prepare to Print!" button? it seem redundant since I already have selected what process I want to use under, "Processes (double-click to edit).

thanks,

Re: Processes disappearing

What types of processes are you having to add back? Give us an example, and then hopefully we can tell you the best way to do it ;)

Re: Processes disappearing

using the wizard under help I created a Printrbot Simple Metal and a Robo 3D printer drivers. From those two added process I will modify them and create ABS, and some other special process like maybe a vase setup. So my process list on the left might look like:

Simple
ROBO 3D
ROBO 3D ABS
Simple Vase

Later using the wizard I added Type A Machines printer and from doing that I lost all the above processes and only the Type A Machines Process exists. I can easily add back the process for Printrbot Simple and Robo 3d but only the defaults ones. I can not find the Robo ABS or Simple Vase settings.

Re: Processes disappearing

That's because S3D is built so that all those extra settings will be saved as separate profiles, not left as a bunch of processes. For example, when you create your new Robo3D settings that work really well, just click "Save As New" to save that profile. This way it will always be available from the profile drop down list. And for the Robo3D ABS settings, you can actually save all of that within the same profile since version 3.0 now allows really easy editing of the material options. These two videos were really helpful for me, so they might help explain things

Re: Processes disappearing

Hi Sorry But why it should makes sense to remove all procces when i add a new printer ?

i have a few printers for all a few proccess and now need to add a new one again, and I already angry like hell bec I know that i have to add all proccesses again ( like the last times).

Why they have to be deleatet and why should i create everytime a new profile I like the way to have one ground profile and than my specialiced procceses depending what i want to print!

And also if I have to work with this ,still no reason to deleate all ! it means again to create a dozen procceses again ) also if only need to choose the right profiles
its a lot work bec ( in my eyes) a big bug in the Software

Re: Processes disappearing

You should be saving different printer settings as different profiles, not processes. The software is of course designed around the profile system, so if you aren't using it, I'm sure it will cause problems.

This video explains the profile system and how to store different printer settings there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZ7HFPY1wog

It sounds like he's got an object with multiple processes to print, and when he adds a new printer, the multiple processes are deleted.
So, for example, vase with heavy base (process 1) and lighter top (process 2). If he adds a new printer, at the least process 2 is deleted. Since he says "all processes" deleted, sounds like process 1 is deleted also.

I'm concerned about this, because it took a while to debug my printing and wouldn't want to lose my settings (as in process deleted he says).

Re: Processes disappearing

Hi

yes and no

There are different Proccesses for different Printers and also for Multiple Proccsses Printing

Ok let say it again on a other way

what you want that we all do ( if more printers )

I have one Proccess were I EVERY TIME need to go in and change the profile to the right printer and the adjustment i did there.
than i can use it for the printer i want use

But also here after adding a new Printer I have to create this proccess and also if multiple proccesses for one print I ahve to add all again

And sorry again that makes no sense simple let them there and iff add a new Printer the list for choosing profile has one more entry thats enough

What we are doing

I have 10 ( and more) proccesses For Printers special point special kind of print ........
Behind this proccesses i could also have all single profiles ( that profile and proccesses point is not the Point again we only talking why deleating)

i choose that process and can use what I need.
But bec of the Bug i have to add all proccess again ( and for your profile thinking means add new proccess choose profile one confirm , add new proccess choosse profile 2 confirm, add new proccess choose profile 3 , add new proccess choose profile 4 ..................................................................)

So please we are not talking about proccesses and profiles !
we talking about that every time you add a new printer 2 things happens
1. A new Profile is available in the Profile List -> Right thats what we want
2. The Full List with Proccesses are deleated -> Software Bug ! For What that Point makes no sense !

Now Better for understanding ?

So I hope someone now can help and not tell the same story about profile again and again we didnt talk about that we talking about deleating of processes.
with every adding of the configuration assistant.

Best regards

Re: Processes disappearing

Hah, well your probably going to get the same answer since that is the standard and intended way of doing things with the software. If you have specific settings for a specific machine or print, you should save those as a new profile (not just leave it as a process). That way it is internally saved and maintained by the software. That's the standard way of doing things and how the software was designed.

If you don't want to follow these standard, then you still have a few options. The configuration assistant and dual extrusion wizard are both simple tools that are intended to configure everything perfectly for a newcomer. Multiple processes can be confusing for new users, so it clears everything out so that you can just click "prepare to print" and you're ready to go. So those tools are going to remove your processes. So before you use either of those things, just go to File > Save Factory File, and export a factory file since that will contain all of your processes. That way you can always reopen the factory file to reload them.

As others have said, I would still recommend just learning to use the profile system, but that's the best solution I can think of if you want to do things a different way.

Re: Processes disappearing

There is a workaround for what you want to do, Thomas.
Save as a factory file, then open any junk object, add your new printer. Then reload your factory file. It'll have your new printer and NOT wipe out your
processes.
I have to agree, it sounds like a design bug. Another bug to beware of, it will give you no warning that your multiple processes, for a single object, are set to different printers. It should mark every process red that's a different printer than process1 until they're corrected.
