Need help with dual extrusion job

I'm trying for the first time to use the 2nd extruder on my Mbot cube printer. When the initial layer is being printed, using the left extruder, the right extruder is leaking filament as the first layer goes down. Because of that, I can't get a clean first layer, because eventually the left extruder overlaps the mess left behind by the right extruder.

I've also tried doing more customized print processes where the right extruder isn't heated until it's needed, by selecting the "Wait for temperature controller to stabilize" option, but the printer seems to ignore that command in the print job, and will begin to try to print without heating the extruder.

I've went another direction as well, by creating two sets of print processes, one for the first layers using the left extruder, and the remainder in a 2nd print job using the right extruder. This fails as well, because when the job for the left extruder begins, the printer skips the heating step at the start and just goes straight to printing.

Ultimately, my goal is to not have to print using just one extruder to swap colors, mainly for convenience, but I also want to get his function working regardless, just so I have that capability.

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here, but I'd really appreciate some ideas on this one.

If you have an extruder that oozes a lot, it's going to be hard to avoid this. You can use things like an ooze shield to try to catch some of the oozing some it doesn't end up on the part.
