Multi (logical) Extruders, same tool = Greatness

Sorry if I'm being dumb but I haven't seen this posted anywhere.

I've always found support material a bit too robust, especially with a 0.5mm nozzle and was wondering how to make it print thinner. Simplify3D allows you to set up multiple extruders that use the same tool head. So even if you only have a single physical extruder you can create two or more extruders for a profile. And with each extruder you can set different properties, like extrusion multiplier and retraction options.

I created a second extruder (for tool 0) and set the extrusion multiplier to 50% with no retraction and then set this as the active extruder for support material and the results are great! Support is far rigid and easier to remove. Uses less filament too. Also works if you want to print thinner infill.

A similar strategy has been discussed in a different post here:

I've been using Simplify3D for just 2 weeks now, and came across the possibility to set up multiple virtual extruders a couple of days ago.
I totally agree with you that this such a great feature and it can indeed be used for many different applications.
For example, I'm currently trying to exploit virtual extruders to optimize the transparency of functional 3d printed devices by having different parameters for the 100% infill and the outline perimeters.
