Vase mode troubles

Hey there,

Been working on a project for a contest recently and ran into troubles on the slicing and printing parts.
I designed an embossed surface and wanted to print it in vase mode with S3D.

The thing is, I noticed strange layers on the layer view but thought it wasn't going to impact the print quality. Which it actualy did, see the captures below.

What am I doing wrong ?

Also, not related to this problem but the surface has a tendency to bump and deform, it does not stay straight.

Thanks for you help

Sure, here you go :

Things to know :
- I made this model with Sketchup and cleaned it with both Solid Explorer and CleanUp
- I tried fixing the resulting stl with MakePrintable and ended up with a cleaner model, but still has some bizarre layers on top and bottom.

I don't have this problem with Cura's vase mode and this does not occur on non vase mode (S3D).

Re: Vase mode troubles

OK this is looking strange. I get those artifacts too.
Maybe something is wrong with the model.
I just picked up some other models and switch to vase mode and everthing looks fine.

However you should definite reduce you retraction speed and distance, it is much to high in my opinion. Ok... in vase mode are no retractions, to that is not a problem here.
Maybe you should check you stl file. Maybe it is broken

Re: Vase mode troubles

Thank you for your reply MasterFX

Yes, I too think there is something wrong with the model despite Sketchup says everything is shiny.
I am going to redesign this model from scratch and see what happens then post back here.

I actually use theses settings on a particular 3D printer, Obro Stratomaker, and this profile has been given to me by the manufacturer himself.
This machines relies on a OLinuxIno board.

You are right, I agree with you the retraction speed looks high but It has been working works remarquably well for me for months.
