Bug with deselecting models

Hi,

When I import, for example, 5 models to S3D at the same time and I deselect 4 of them (in the "Models" box) and leave only one and I click Prepare to PRINT! the software still tries to print all the 5 models even if I deselected 4 of them!

How do I make it dont generate the gcode for 5 models and only for one without having to delete the 4 models and having do add them later?

Re: Bug with deselecting models

It's not a bug, it's a feature!

... I'm annoyed for this a long time, but I couldn't find a solution.

Even when checked OFF in the object-box all objects will be prepared to print. Surely not ok, but it only helps to solve when the not to print objects are deleted.

What you can do, is to go the process settings, and click on "Select Models", and then deselect the ones you don't want to include in the print. Not as intuitive as just unchecking them in the "Models", but it does work.

It cant be a feature if it creates more problems than advantages. It's surely a bug, if the user unchecks a model that user SURELLY dont want that model to be printed, there is no difficulty in understanding this. Maybe S3D dont care about the users, it has been months since the last update do the sofoware, there are so many bugs and "features" disguised as bugs that it's hard to me recomend this completely outdated software.

Re: Bug with deselecting models

I'd always assumed the select/deselect functionality was intended to allow changes (size/scaling) to individual objects, duplicate or 'drop' selected objects or create separate processes for selected objects. Normally I only have the objects loaded that I want to print so I never saw the requirement to deselect objects from the print process.

An alternative/workaround could be to save an FFF file with all objects and settings then remove the ones that shouldn't be printed. After printing the FFF can be reloaded.

Just a thought

Re: Bug with deselecting models

Edit a process and deselect from process what objects you do not want to print
(Edit process settings / Select Models button)

When you select something(s) in the models box you are selecting for editing purposes only. This has nothing to do with the print processing. As noted above, you select/deselect what is included in a print process from within the print process itself. To put it in the context of other software, the CAM package I use for CNC machining has some limited CAM capabilities as well. I can select multiple objects for editing, for example scaling, but this selection has nothing to do with tool path generation. When I add a machining operation (sort of like a process in S3D) I select the objects that machining operation applies to. The object selection is part of the machining operation (process)

I know I keep mentioning the videos S3D has posted under the Support link at the top of the page. They were really helpful to me getting started with this software to understand how it actually works, not how I assumed it should work.

One way to accomplish what you are trying to do (from what I gather) if you have three objects on the build plate that you may want to print is to create three processes and associate one process per object. Then when you click the 'Print Preview' button you will be asked what processes to include and you can select only those objects you want to print at that time.

I think you are quite a noobie in CAD and CAM.
Separate logic from visual is a MUST in this kind of software. And I also think you just print easy models without any kind of supports, or you'll been already concious of the kind of FEATURE (not BUG) is this.

Try to position hundreds of support pillars in a 30" by 30" plate full of objects, using 20 or more Processes with different pillars density and then talk.

You slammed into our faces your opinion and not listening others saying to you this is a feature and not a bug.

But until you're angry for lack of updates (sure you could be, but we are not S3D team members and you have to damn chill) and wanna throw shit on a BEAUTIFUL software, you should FIRST learn to use CAM and CAD softwares, then chill and finally talk.

Until then...

Cheers
