I upgraded to v4 recently, and on this computer when I do anything that opens the file browser (save factory file, save gcode, etc), the program crashes.
Also upgraded on my laptop, and it does not have this problem. Both are running windows 10 pro.
I haven't been able to fix it so far. I had hoped that rebooting might fix it (it had been a month or more probably) but no luck.
I had something similar happen in the past with Kolor Autopano Video, and the "solution" was to check or uncheck "Use System File Browser" or something like that. I guess they came across this problem too and couldn't fix it, so they just built in an alternative file browser. Hopefully a better solution can be found. For now I will use Cura on this computer, still use S3D for now on my laptop which does not exhibit this issue.
Support suggested reinstalling windows which I declined to do, but provided them all the info I could about the crash.
I still had the installer for 3.1.1 so I have both that and 4.0.0 on this computer. 4.0.0 crashes ever time the browser tries to open. 3.1.1 does not crash. So it has to be the latest version's problem.
This is a shame. I really want to try out the new features. I use the software for creating parts for manufacturing lines at my company. I'm excited to see improvements, but I need some bug fixes.
support just got back to me and suggested removing Dell Backup and Recovery. After I uninstalled it (and skipped the reboot it asked me to do) the file browser works fine in s3d v4.
