[FIXED] Freezing slicer in 4.0

Hi,

Here is a factory file I'm unable to slice because Simplify3D 4.0 just eats up all the CPUs and the slicing stops at "Calculating infill..."
Any idea how to fix this? I'm running S3D 4.0.0 on macOS 10.13.

Re: Freezing slicer in 4.0

Not 100% sure what the actual issue is......but try replacing your two shapes with the attached.....and I think they'll slice okay.

All I've done is load the stl into Window's 3DBuilder and use the option to reduce the number of faces...then save.

I don't think its the number of faces being too high. I think its simply something in the mesh that S3D is not able to interpret.

I'm running into the same problem with the attached stl.

Cura 2.7 slices it fine... but I love my S3D and wished it worked.

Re: Freezing slicer in 4.0

BTW I also noticed since upgrading to 4.0.. there is like a 3-5s delay when loading any STL.. It was instant in 3.x.

Sliced in around a second for me!

Try the attached version which has been simplified slightly using 3DBuilder....which I thoroughly recommend downloading if you have a newer version of Windows.

Re: Freezing slicer in 4.0

Thanks guys. If I reduce the number of faces then S3D v4 slices it properly _but_ Cura and Slic3r are slicing these models with the current face density. I just want to know why S3D is unable to process them because I think this might be a bug.

I have designed this model in Autodesk Fusion 360 and exported the STL using the "High" refinement option in Save as STL dialog. If I export the same model with "Medium" refinement settings everything is fine.

I am using S3D v4 on a 6 core Mac Pro with 64 GB RAM so no performance related issues here :)

Re: Freezing slicer in 4.0

As I said in my earlier post on this thread, I don't believe its got anything to do with the number of faces or points....I'm fairly certain its due to an issue in the mesh ....and resizing is a good way to regenerate the mesh, thus overwriting the error that S3D was unable to work with.

Have you tried re-exporting at high for a second time and tried that file in S3D???

Yes I have - same happens, S3D stops at Calculating infill... I will upload the standalone STL as well.

For what it's worth I just tried your stl (S3D4.0.0 / Win10) and it sliced successfully in about a second.

Re: Freezing slicer in 4.0

This issue has now been fixed in Version 4.0.1. I was able to slice the factory files that were provided in only a few seconds, so they no longer get stuck at the stage that you mentioned.

Thank you for reporting the issue!
