I am having problems with complex files slicing.
for example this part should be sliced and printed as on the left(via makerbot)
but it closed the holes which were a part of design.
Yes, I have got the same problem with a complex stl file with lots of holes in it!
The slicer swaps the infill to the holes and leaves the part hollow!
It does that only at certain layer heights.
I have tried just about everything to fix it:
Changing layer heights.
Fixing the stl within Simplify3d with the repair options.
updated simplify3d to version 2.1.2
Making de model simpler by leaving out all the radiusus.
exporting the 3d model from inventor at different qualities settings.
Fixing the stl file using the online Microsoft tool for 3d printing.
The only thing that seems to work is to change the orientation of the part, but by rotating it 90 degrees it needs a lot of support material. so that is not really an option...
Does anybody have an other idea of to overcome this slicer error?
Only time i have ever had this happen is when there is a problem with the model. One key you noted is that it happens at certain levels. That is a sure fire sign of a model ssue. Repair software can be good but it does not guarantee a good model when its done.
