Memory Leak

This is what happens when I slice a big model (or any model actually just takes longer with smaller models). I've had it get up to 4G before. It gets worse and worse over time and I have to restart S3D before I forget and it eventually causes major machine headaches. On OSX 10.9

Re: Memory Leak

never really paid attention dennis. i have 12g of memory and never have an issue but now that you bring this up ill have to take notice to whats happening. i usually never shut sown s3d either. i just keep it running and it has never slowed down my mac or caused issues that i am aware of but i dont doubt you one bit. thanks for bringing it up.

Re: Memory Leak

I have 16G. Probably wouldn't have noticed either but I"m also in the habit of running 3 different vmware machines at the same time (work related) so I tend to start noticing when something takes a bunch of memory. Should be a piece of cake to track down with Instruments.

Re: Memory Leak

ok so i have been looking into this a bit and did some tests. i have kept the memory monitor running on my desktop of my mac while s3d has been running for the past couple days. i loaded stl after stl. mostly large ones. i would go ahead and slice them then remove the model and load another. i did watch the memory usage creep up with each model and go from 58mb all the way up to 4gb after the final stl i loaded which had 2 mil polygons. for me to get it to 4gb i probably loaded and sliced 15 different med to large models. after the final one i removed the model and it dropped right back down to 700mb. basically it is doing what it think it should with no type of error or bug there. it will build to a certain point or until you remove the model and then it drops back down. this would seem normal to me.

58mb start to 700mb after removed model is normal? Where are the 642MB? Just load it up with instruments and find out. Not too hard to track memory leaks. If it isn't leaked memory and there is something else holding on to it you can find that too and release the memory.

Re: Memory Leak

I'm not seeing the memory reduction you did after slicing the dragon. I started at a few hundred megs usage (had sliced some other small models), sliced the dragon once and it went to 2.2G. Removed the model and back to only 2.09G.

Re: Memory Leak

Anecdotal, but I've had S3D bloat up to 4gb memory with a lot of objects and processes.
Restarting and re-opening the same factory file would reset memory back to a few hundred megs. Something's going on with the memory.

Re: Memory Leak

If you use use supports on a complex model you can reproduce much more memory leaking BTW.
i.e., slice the dragon and use supports. Just one slicing makes it increase by 2G of memory.

Re: Memory Leak

2.2 -> getting worse not better.
This is only after slicing a few times. I keep having to restart it because after 2.5G or so other things on my computer start having issues.

Re: Memory Leak

Well, installed and got through a couple settings issues yesterday and printed a yoda bust. Now I cannot get anything to work. S3d just hangs and pinwheels my mac, os 10.9.5 16Gb ram. When I try to import a model, Had to force quit 3 times already. Crap this sucks, was trying to print and raptor hand to give away.......Restarted and no difference. Just goes to not responding... What gives?
