S3D FFF Settings structure

Hi,

I have been using S3D for some weeks now. I am still somewhat confused what parameters are stored where and how they are hierarcically related.
As I understand it there the following grouping:
  • Profile - related to a specific printer model
  • Material - related to... a specific material
  • Print quality - related to...a specific material quality
Question 1:
Where are the 3 above stored? What is in the .factory and what is a general setting independent of factory file?

In addition to this there are the following Settings islands/tabs:
  • General settings
  • Extruder
  • Layer
  • Additions
  • Infill
  • Support
  • Temperature
  • Cooling
  • G-Code
  • Scripts
  • Speeds
  • Other
  • Advanced
Question 2:
Are each of the above tabs linked 1:1 with either Profile/Material/Print Quality?
If yes - how. If no how are they then associated?

Question 3:
In my optimization of printing I may conclude that my extruder multiplier should be 0.99 instead of 1.00. If I have 100 different .factory files I would want this change to mitigate this optimization across for all relating to that specific (Machine specific profile). Will this happen or do I have to go through 100 factory files to change this?

Thanks in advance. :-)

In a Simplify3D profile, for a single extruder machine, you will see the settings categories you have mentioned. Whats important to note is that all of the settings are included as the base profile. Then if you switch materials or quality settings the settings tied to those auto-configure options are altered from the base profile defaults to reflect the newly selected material or quality option. In the linked post below the poster explained how to open your profile in a text editor to see which specific settings will change when changing material and or quality options.

Factory Files are an instance of your profile's settings (at time of factory file being saved) paired with your model, it's position, and any manually placed support structures. And thus nothing is really independent of a factory file. The factory file saves everything you should need to re-slice your model in it's current setup and print on your machine again and again and again.

Linking is explained in answer to first question.

Changes to your profile in it's current state would not propagate to a previously saved factory file.

Re: S3D FFF Settings structure

Thanks.

I see the discussion has been loon going without much clarity or cleanup in the settings structure of the application...
