Dual Extruders

I have designed a jig which has legends on the top. What I was thinking was that I could print the base using process 1 which used the right extruder, and then at a given height switch to process 2 which prints using the other extruder (in another colour). This actually works, nearly.

My base is 4mm high. The legends sit on top of that. To ensure these legends were 'attached' to the base I configured the STL file so that the legends were sunk into the base by 0.2mm. I have attached a copy of that STL file. The 2 processes define the start/stop heights at where the processes begin/end.

What happens is that the legends do indeed print as expected. However they aren't firmly attached to the base - and minor pressure causes them to be physically removed.

Am I doing this right?

Re: Dual Extruders

is the second extruder at temperature when it goes to print? I have also been playing around with something like this, but I just wanted to change filament through the print. I was having problems with 2nd head not at temp when it started to print, and so misses some filament when it starts

Actually I may have discovered what my problem is - poor design. Currently working thru that.

I fire up both extruders to temperature at the start of the job, so both are running hot throughout. I did fiddle around with setting the 2nd extruder temperature when the 2nd process kicked in - but that soon led to me abandoning that approach.
