V5 Linux missing .desktop file

I installed V5 according tot he instructions and the .desktop file is nowhere to be found. Could someone post the contents of Simplify3D.desktop so I can launch from the GUI?

Re: V5 Linux missing .desktop file

I wrote one myself based on the Uninstall Simplify3D Software.desktop file. Here it is for anyone else who needs it:

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Version=5.0.0
Name=Simplify3D Software
Comment=Slicer
Icon=/opt/Simplify3D-5.0.0/icon.png
Exec=/opt/Simplify3D-5.0.0/LaunchScript.sh
Terminal=false
Path=/opt/Simplify3D-5.0.0

Re: V5 Linux missing .desktop file

Would you mind sharing what Linux distro you are using?

If you used V4 previously do you know if it successfully added the .desktop file after the install on that same computer?

Re: V5 Linux missing .desktop file

I use Arcolinux which is based on Arch.

It has been a long time since I used Simplify3D and I do not recall if the previous version created the .desktop file.

You should investigate deploying on Linux as an Appimage the way they do with Cura. Takes care of the compatibility issues.

Re: V5 Linux missing .desktop file

I cant speak for Arch but with V4 it never installed a launcher file properly. It has been an issue for a long time, pretty sure I have a 4 year old plus bug report on it.
